Akash Madhwal and Piyush Chawla picked a wicket each for Mumbai. Sudharsan was retired out. In reply, Mumbai Indians lost two wickets in the powerplay overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Nehwal Wadhera scored eight and four runs respectively.
Ishan Kishan did not bat and Vishnu Vinod replaced him as a concussion substitute. Kishan suffered injury to his left eye after being hit by teammate Chris Jordan’s elbow during GT’s innings.
Cameron Green was also retired hurt before walking back in after Tilak Varma’s dismissal on the final ball of the sixth over. Suryakumar Yadav (61 off 38) partnered for 51 runs with Tilak Varma (43 off 14) before stitching another partnership of 51 runs with Green (30 off 20).
However, once Mohit Sharma cleaned his wickets in the 15th over, MI innings collapsed from 155/4 in 14.2 overs to 171 all-out in 18.2 overs. Mohit, who started his spell in the 15th over of the match, ended up picking five wickets for 10 runs in 2.2 overs.
Gujarat Titans (GT) will now face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2023 final at the same venue on Sunday, May 28.
