The incident happened during the 15th over of the innings when the RCB captain shot the LSG leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi to the cow-corner region after the young wrist spinner missed his line and bowled it short.

Ravi Bishnoi, who was economical until that point with 19 runs in three overs, was shot for three sixes in that over with Glenn Maxwell slamming the third of the last ball after Du Plessis shot back-to-back maximums.

Faf du Plessis, who earlier had an opening stand of 96-run stand with Virat Kohli, continued his onslaught to reach his half-century in just 35 balls. Before hitting Bishnoi for a six, the South African was happy to play a second fiddle and allowed Kohli to take charge in the opening stand.

Kohli shot four sixes and boundaries each during his 44-ball stay to score 61 runs. The former RCB captain, who scored his second half-century of IPL 2023, was taken down by veteran spinner Amit Mishra in the 12th over. The wicket came off a short delivery as the batter was caught at deep by Marcus Stoinis.

Faf du Plessis continued the firework with pinch-hitter Glenn Maxwell during a 100-plus stand, which came up in 44 deliveries. Maxwell returned to form with the knock as the Australian shot half-century in just 24 balls.
