The Indian batter had been suffering with recurring lower back pains for the past few months. His back injury kept him out of the ODI squad against New Zealand. He also missed the first Test of the Border Gavaskar series.

According to MyKhel sources, the player won’t take any part in the IPL 2023. He is the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders but hasn’t featured for them this season. Nitish Rana has been captaining KKR in Shreyas’ absence.

Iyer needs at least two to three months to return to full fitness, hence the summit clash of the Test tournament will be too soon for him. But the KKR captain will reach full fitness and will be available for selection for the ODI World Cup later this year.
Iyer is not the only player to miss WTC Final, as pacestar Jasprit Bumrah is also going to miss the solitary clash. The Indian pacer is also suffering from a back issue and hasn’t played a match since September last year.
