RCB captain Virat Kohli fined Rs 24 Lakh, other RCB players Rs 6 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate

RCB clinched a fantastic victory over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL match on Sunday (April 23). They defended 189 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and won by 7 runs to get to 5th in the IPL table.

But their skipper Virat Kohli failed to complete the bowling within the stipulated period of time, and thus has been fined by IPL as a breach of the Code of Conduct.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023,” a statement from IPL read.

This was the second time when RCB failed to bowl within the time limit, and as a second time minimum over-rate offence, the entire team has been fined.

While Kohli has to pay the biggest penalty, other RCB members are also charged with INR 6 Lakh or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser.

RCB secured their fourth victory of the season against Rajasthan and will be taking on Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday in their next match.

This IPL has brought a stipulation regarding bowling within the regular time period. If the teams can’t start the 20th over within the stipulated time, they will have to put an extra fielder inside the ring for the 20th over.
