Dhoni’s CSK have already tasted their first win of the season as they defeated Lucknow Super Giants in their second game at home after losing to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. As far as their rivals MI are concerned, the biggest rivals of IPL have faced each other 34 times with Rohit and the side leading the head-to-head with 20 wins. Their last six encounters saw both teams win thrice each.
MI vs CSK injury update
MI injury update Mumbai Indians bolstered their bowling line-up two days before the match as Australian pacer Riley Meredith joined the side in place of injured compatriot Jhye Richardson. Earlier, Sandeep Warrier replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah as well.
Key players An unheralded Tilak Varma grabbed the limelight among hoards of star players with a knock of 46-ball 84. However, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan misfired in the last game and there has been a question mark on their recent forms. Sharma, however, has played some good knocks for India before coming to IPL.
Among foreign names, Cameron Green flopped in his first match of the season but the Aussie scored a century in the Border-Gavaskar series recently. Tim David was off to a bad start as well but it is too soon to write him off as well as he did well in the Pakistan Super League recently.
Among bowlers, Jofra Archer remains key to MI’s ambitions for the season as he is among the experienced pacers in the team and will hope to get some support from new arrival Meredith as Jason Behrendorff was far from impressive last game. Among spinners, Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya are to fight for the position after the former proved expensive in the last game.
CSK injury update There’s no report of any new injury concern for CSK while an update on Mukesh Choudhary’s return is still updated.
CSK key players Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to hold the key top of the order as he played two back-to-back solid knocks. In-form Devon Conway brought his international form to the tournament as well with a knock of 47. Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu played good cameos as well in the last game and will look to consolidate on it against MI.
MS Dhoni played another of those cameos but batting too late in the innings means he can’t exactly be a Dream11 team choice. Among foreign batters, Ben Stokes flopped in back-to-back two innings but did return to bowling in the last game meanwhile Moeen Ali wasted another of his good start but has been in good touch.
Ali, however, did the job with the ball on conducive bowling conditions in Chepauk while Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets while conceding 45 runs. Deepak Chahar proved too costly as well by giving away 55 runs while Mitchell Santner bowled 0/21 in his full quota of overs. Jadeja, who couldn’t do much with the bat, was given just an over and went for 14 runs. Rajvardhan Hagargekar, who took three wickets on debut, was ineffective in Chepauk

MI vs CSK pitch report
The Wankhede Stadium has a batting-friendly wicket with boundary dimensions of 64 to 68 metres on the square and 68 to 72 metres on the straight helps the batters more. The red soil on Wankede wicket doesn’t help spinners much and keeping the strength of the home team in mind with the likes of Jofra Archer and Riley Meredith, they may prepare fast pitches.
