IPL 2023 Toss Update, MI vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings Opt To Bowl First After Winning Toss

MS Dhoni

The CSK skipper confirmed that their English duo of Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali are unavailable for the game and are replaced by Ajinkya Rahane and Dwaine Pretorius.

MS Dhoni after winning the toss: “One of the most memorable venues. Not only because of the 2011 win but the reception we got after the 2007 T20 World Cup. We’ve had some injury concerns. Stokes has an injury. Mo is not well and in their place we’ve got Rahane and Pretorius. Other than that, same team.”

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said that he would have bowled first as well. The side also rested Jofra Archer for the game as a precautionary measure.

“We would’ve fielded as well. It’s a good pitch to bat and will be a good contest between bat and ball,” Sharma said. “The mood has been upbeat and hopefully we can correct the things we didn’t do in Bangalore. One injury – not an injury but just a precaution – Jofra is not playing, but we’ve got other guys to do the job for us. Great feeling to be back at the Wankhede.”

Mumbai Indians Playing 11: Rohit Sharma(c), Ishan Kishan(w), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Tristan Stubbs, Arshad Khan, Hrithik Shokeen, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendorff

Impact substitute options: Ramandeep Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Arjun Tendulkar, Kumar Karthikeya, Nehal Wadhera

Chennai Super Kings Playing 11: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni(w/c), Shivam Dube, Dwaine Pretorius, Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, Sisanda Magala, Tushar Deshpande

Impact substitute options: Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ambati Rayudu, Shaik Rasheed, Akash Singh, Subhranshu Senapati

Pitch Report by Ian Bishop on JioCinema: “Short leg-side boundary for the right-hander, just 63m and the fine-leg boundary is just 54m. Expect a lot of ramps today. The average score here in 2022 was 167, but teams will be hoping for more than that on a ground with these dimensions.

“However, if you remember CSK were bowled out here for 97 last year. There is a lot of grass, all the way through but no clear big patches. So the ball might do a little bit but if there’s dew it will slide on to the bat. Hoping for a really good cricket match but just wonder if the new ball will do a bit here.”
