He played nine matches last season to score 101 runs at an average of 14.42 and pick six wickets at an average of 39.83.
Sundar’s saga of never-ending injuries started back in July 2021 when he fractured his finger while batting for Combined Counties against a visiting Indian team in a warm-up game. He turned up for the county side so that India could test all its players before start of the series.
Later, just ahead of the white-ball series against South Africa in January 2022, he tested positive for COVID-19. In February-March, he missed the twin white ball home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka because of hamstring injury.
Sundar’s injury will leave the onus of the spin department on Mayank Markande now. SRH also have leg-spinner Adil Rashid and left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma in their squad. However, including Rashid as teams can have only four overseas players in the eleven.
Harry Brook is opening the batting and has scored a hundred. Heinrich Klaasen has looked good and shown intent, Marco Jansen is speaheading the pacer attack while the fourth overseas player is captain Aiden Markram himself.
