Both the batters have now been dismissed for a duck 15 times each. Karthik’s horrid run in the IPL 2023 has now seen him score 10 runs in three matches at an average of 3.33.
Batter’s with most ducks in IPL
Mandeep Singh: 15
Dinesh Karthik: 15
Sunil Narine: 14
Rohit Sharma: 14
Ajinkya Rahane: 13
It’s in complete contrast with his performance in the previous edition when he was eyeing for a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
In the IPL 2022, played the role of the finisher to perfection, scoring 330 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33. He made a stunning India comeback for the first time after 2019 and proved himself enough to be picked for the T20 World Cup 2022.
However, he failed to impress and could score just 14 runs in four matches at an average of 4.66. Quite naturally, the 37-year-old was again dropped from the national squad.
Even the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have stopped featuring in the shortest format of the game for India and there is no way Karthik can hope for another sensational comeback.
The same lack of inspiration has most probably led to the massive dip in form for Karthik. The Tamil Nadu cricketer has looked dull and purposeless on the field and his stats prove that.
Even during RCB’s last match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) he fumbled while trying to grab the ball as Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi ran a bye to steal a last-ball win.
The veteran cricketer would be hoping to find some inspiration and end his career on a high in what could be his last IPL season.
