The match went down to the wire in the closing stages when CSK were chasing 176 at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Needing 60 runs from the last five overs, Dhoni had a crucial stand with Ravindra Jadeja with the latter bringing the side back in the game with two sixes and a four off Jason Holder in the penultimate over.
Needing 21 runs off the final over, Dhoni smashed back-to-back sixes after two wides by Sandeep Sharma under pressure. However, the bowler responded well by giving away just three runs in the remaining three deliveries with back-to-back perfect yorkers to seal the win.
There were other performers in the game as well with R Ashwin scoring a 22-ball 30 and then delivering two wickets as well to clinch the man of the match award. Apart from him, CSK’s Devon Conway and RR’s Jos Buttler scored half-centuries while opening the innings.
For one moment, 2.2 Cr Indians held their breath. Old memories rushed back. A familiar expectation took over.
