Jason Roy was roped in as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan, who withdrew from IPL 2023 citing personal reasons and international commitments. Roy, the England opener, was then signed by KKR for INR 2.8 crore.
Roy has prior IPL experience with Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad and he was part of the Gujarat Titans squad last season but withdrew ahead of last year’s IPL. He remained unsold this season but the Knight Riders managed to lure him in.
The announcement of Roy’s signing was made earlier this week and the player has arrived in Kolkata on Saturday. The KKR social media team shared the picture of Roy’s arrival on Saturday. It will come as a huge boost for them as they need someone like Roy to shine in a shaky top order.
KKR’s newest recruitment is poised to travel to Ahmedabad for the Gujarat clash and is in contention to play on Sunday at the Narendra Modi stadium.
KKR sit 4th in the IPL table with two points after two matches. The Knight Riders lost their first match against Punjab Kings but rallied back in tremendous fashion against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last match at the Eden Gardens.
