IPL 2023: KKR opener Jason Roy fined for breaching Code of Conduct during RCB clash

The England star played a crucial role in helping KKR post 200/5 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. His 29-ball stay on the crease saw him blast 56 runs including four fours and five sixes.

The 32-year-old was dismissed on the final ball of the 10th over by RCB pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak. Roy shuffled across the crease as Vushak’s delivery crashed directly into his leg-stump. Roy hit one one of the bails while screaming furiously at himself.

“Kolkata Knight Riders batter Jason Roy has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

“Mr. Roy admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” a release by the IPL said.

KKR defeated RCB by 21 runs in the match later after a brilliant bowling performance by Varun Chakravarthy. The leg-spinner dismissed Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik in his spell of 3/27 in 20 overs as Virat Kohli’s 54 off 37 went in vain.

The win was Kolkata’s first in five matches. They will next face defending Champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday at the Eden Gardens.
