In a tense finish, Delhi secured a 4-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. Chasing 128, Delhi were four down for 93 before slipping to 111/6. Well set David Warner and Manish Pandey within a short duration.
Seven were required off the last over when Axar Patel ran three consecutive doubles (one on a no ball) and sealed Delhi’s first win with four wickets and as many balls remaining.
“Happy to get off the mark. I was sitting there in the dugout and thinking it was like getting my first Test run (pressure of ending losing streak). We were on the luckier side today,” Ganguly, who scored a hundred on his debut Test, said after the match.
Further, the former India captain asserted that Delhi’s batting issues were the root of all the problems. However, he backed the team’s batters, saying they have been consistent performers in the IPL over the years.
“We bowled well before as well this season. But the problem is the batting. We need to go back and look at ourselves and see how we can get better. Spinners bowled well.
“I know we have not played well and need to find a way to bat better. We work hard with the boys and get them back in form. Be it Prithvi, Manish, Mitch Marsh. They have been important players and around for a while for their respective teams,” Ganguly added.
Delhi will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, April 24.
