IPL 2023: Delhi cricketers Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen get into verbal spat in MI vs KKR match


The pumped up Mumbai Indians (MI) youngster said something in his send-off to Rana (5 off 10) who retaliated with expletives. Suryakumar Yadav, who was captaining Mumbai in the absence of Rohit Sharma, and veteran spinner Piyush Chawala intervened and tried to calm down Rana.

Both Rana and Shokeen play for Delhi in domestic cricket. Shokeen played under the captaincy of Rana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23. They also played matches together in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23. Shokeen, 22, is comparatively new to senior cricket and has played a total of five first-class, eight List A and 11 T20 matches till date.

Rana, on the other hand has played 44 first-class, 66 List A and 165 T20 matches. The 29-year-old has also represented India in one ODI and two T20Is. The southpaw is leading KKR in the absence of Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2023.

The fans were quick to recall the verbal spat between two other Delhi cricketers – Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in the IPL 2013 after the heated exchange between Rana and Shokeen on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium.

Talking about the match, on the back of a hundred from Venkatesh Iyer (104 off 51), KKR has posted a 186-run target for Mumbai after being asked to bat first.
