GT vs MI IPL 2023: 4 Bowlers Who Will Take Most Wickets In Today’s Match


GT lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 15 runs in the Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, while MI defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 81 runs in the Eliminator on Wednesday. Both the matches were played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

This will be the third meeting between the two sides this season. GT defeated MI by 55 runs in the first match. Mumbai Indians returned the favour with a 27-run win in leg two against Gujarat Titans. Ahead of the knockout game, let’s have a look at four bowlers who can take most wickets in the match.

Mohammed Shami: The Gujarat Titans pacer is the leading wicket-taker in the IPL 2023. He has picked 26 wickets in 15 wickets at an average of 17.38 and an economy rate of 7.66.

In his last outing against Mumbai Indians, Shami leaked as many as 53 runs in four wickets and failed to take any wicket. He would be aiming to avenge his expensive outing and deliver in the knockout match for his team. Shami has played a total of 13 matches against MI and picked 12 wickets at an average of 34.75 and an average of 8.51.

Rashid Khan: The Gujarat titans leg-spinner is the second leading wicket-taker after Shami. He has picked 25 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 19.00 and an economy rate of 7.91.

Rashid picked four wickets for 30 runs in his last outing against Mumbai Indians. Overall, he has played 13 matches against the five-time champions and picked 18 wickets at an average of 17.22 and an economy rate of 5.96.

Piyush Chawla: The veteran leg-spinner is the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2023. He has picked 21 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 21.42 and an economy rate of 7.75.

Chawla picked two wickets for 36 runs in four overs against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 12. He picked the wickets of Vijay Shankar and Rahul Tewatia to help MI win by 27 runs. Overall, he has picked four wickets in two matches at an average of 17.50 and an economy rate of 8.75 against GT.

Akash Madhwal: Will the newly-found confidence of Akash Madhwal help Mumbai Indians pass one more test? The pacer picked five wickets for 5 runs in 3.3 overs in the Eliminator against LSG. In his second-last match, another must-win game for MI, he picked a four-wicket haul.

Overall, in seven IPL 2023 matches so far, Madhwal has picked 13 wickets at an average of 12.84 and an economy rate of 7.76. He was the leading wicket-taker in GT’s last match against MI. He picked three wickets for 31 runs in four overs. Madhwal dismissed GT openers Wridhimman Saha and Shubman Gill. Later, he also dismissed David Miller.
