GT lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 15 runs in the Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, while MI defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 81 runs in the Eliminator on Wednesday. Both the matches were played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
This will be the third meeting between the two sides this season. GT defeated MI by 55 runs in the first match. Mumbai Indians returned the favour with a 27-run win in leg two against Gujarat Titans. Ahead of the knockout game, let’s have a look at four batters who can score the most runs in the match.
Shubman Gill: Shubman Gill, only the second Indian batter to breach the 700-run mark in the IPL, is nine runs short of toppling Faf du Plessis, the leading run-scorer in the ongoing season.
Gll has scored 722 runs in 15 matches at an average of 55.53 and a strike rate of 149.17. The season has seen him score two hundreds and four fifties. In his last outing against Mumbai Indians, Gill scored six off nine balls. Overall, he has played 10 matches against MI and scored 280 runs at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 132.07.
David Miller: Big matches call for big players and David Miller is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous white-ball batters. In the IPL 2023, he has scored 259 runs at an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 145.50.
The southpaw smashed 41 runs off 26 balls in the last outing against MI. Overall, he has played 16 matches against Mumbai Indians and scored 364 runs at an average of 40.44 and a strike rate of 141.63.
Rohit Sharma: The most successful captain in the history of IPL, Rohit Sharma has led his deteriorated team beautifully this season. He would want his bat to do the talking in the all-important IPL Qualifier 2 on Friday.
In the ongoing season, Rohit has scored 324 runs in 15 matches at an average of 141.63 and a strike rate of 133.33. He scored 28 off 18 in his last outing against Gujarat Titans on May 12. Overall, he has played three matches against GT and scored 74 runs at an average of 24.66 and a strike rate of 137.03.
The swashbuckling Mumbai Indians (MI) batter will have the onus of guiding his team into the final. Suryakumar Yadav’s form can be a cause of worry for Gujarat Titans. He has scored 544 runs in 15 matches at an average of 41.84 and a strike rate of 183.78.
Suryakumar is the seventh-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2023. He made his international debut on the same ground and would be aiming to add another happy memory to his cricketing journey here. He has scored 33, 25*, 7, 103* and 83 in his last five innings.
The last time he batted against GT, he blasted 103 unbeaten runs off just 49 deliveries. In three matches against GT, the 32-year-old has scored 139 runs at an average of 69.50 and a strike rate of 193.05.
